Related Learning Experience
Clinical experiences in the sophomore, junior, and senior years shall take place in a variety of affiliated agencies.
The related learning experience of nursing students in an agency shall be supervised by a clinical preceptor, who is a faculty of the MIT School of Health Sciences, College of Nursing with a ratio of 1 preceptor to 10-12 nursing students.
The Preceptorship Program is designed to facilitate the learning of students in any facility (institutional or community) where a partnership has been forged between Mapúa and the agency concerned.
The roles and responsibilities of a clinical preceptor are to:
- Assist the students in identification of learning needs;
- Be familiar with skills and knowledge necessary for standard performance of student at various levels;
- Be available to assist the students in acquiring pertinent skills and knowledge areas;
- Be familiar with the agency’s orientation process;
- Be knowledgeable of the policies/standards/procedure of the institution or community agency;
- Coach students in the performance of skills according to agency policy through demonstration and verbal instruction;
- Provide opportunities for students to maximize learning in coordination/collaboration with the nurses assigned in education and training of the agency;
Arrange for conferences with the concerned staff of the agency to review the standard performance and progress of the students and faculty.
Essential Competencies
Students must demonstrate the following competencies to succeed in the program and eventually pass the Nursing Board Examination

The faculty of the College shall assist all students in attaining the above competencies. However, the student is expected to meet all progression criteria as well as the competencies mentioned above. Each student is responsible for monitoring his/her academic progress and for meeting all BSN degree and Board of Nursing Professional Regulation Commission requirements, as follows:
- Satisfactory academic completion of 193 academic credit units (plus 8 units of P.E. and 6 units of CMT/ROTC)
- Satisfactory completion of at least 2,305 hours clinical laboratory/related learning experience, as follows:

NCM 102 ……………………. 440 hrs.

- Completion of: Five (5) assisted deliveries, Five (5) actual deliveries Five (5) cord dressings including initial care of the newborn, Five (5) assisted minor surgeries, Five (5) assisted major surgeries
- Completion of a research-based project in the senior year addressing a current health concern or problem relevant to nursing practice.
- Completion of all courses of study within a minimum of four years after enrolment for BSN
